Our blog started in 2020 but due to circumstances beyond our control we put it on a pause. We are excited to be starting 2021 with a new goal.. DOCUMENTATION! Being a play based program has some challenges when it comes to documentation. Let me define play based and documentation in an educational setting. A play-based approach involves both child-initiated and teacher-supported learning. The teacher encourages children's learning and inquiry through interactions that aim to stretch their thinking to higher levels. We also incorporate the Reggio Emilia approach. Here's a link to read more on Reggio, scholastic's has a thorough explanation https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/reggio-emilia-approach/.
Documentation typically includes samples of the children's work, photographs of the children engaged in the project work, and comments and transcripts of conversations. Examples of the children's work and reflections on processes can be displayed in the classrooms. This is a work in progress for us since we are some what portable at our location. We have tried using monthly lap-books but they became a hindrance and began guiding what and how the children learn. With this blog we are hoping to fulfill a few goals. #1 It will be used as a source of documentation where our parents can come and see what we are up to. #2 It will answer questions to the how's and why's we do what we do. #3 Children in our program can reflect with their families on a weekly basis and share their personal experiences.
Visit weekly! We will post each Friday before noon. There will be plenty of pictures, stories and personal quotes. Preschoolers do say the funniest things.
So who are we? Woodland Forest Preschool is a nature based preschool.
We are a place where preschoolers can engage their world and develop their sense of wonder through play and investigation; to help them grow and develop in the healthiest environment nature has to offer. We believe children have the ability to learn through play with the guidance of our qualified staff. We offer a rich, natural environment to help our preschoolers develop boundaries of behavior; both physical and social, establish and grow in confidence, self-esteem and become a self-motivated learners. We are excited to start sharing our Woodland world with you. Let's get playing! Please be advised you do not have permission from WFC to copy and writings or photo's. All photos have granted permission from parents for WFC use only.
THIS BLOG WILL RESUME ON SEPTEMBER 10TH. COME BACK AND VISIT IT'S GOING TO BE A GOOD TIME!
